Survival Tin Tool

Price – $37.50 with sheath and shipping to the Continental United States.

The Survival Tin Tools were developed to fit a niche need of a small tool that can be placed into a PSK (personal survival kit) or mini kit.  I really wanted a small lightweight tool that was a beefed up fire steel striker (ferrocerium rod) that can do more than just throw sparks and that is how the development started.  I tested several prototypes before settling on this design that has been in production since August 2009.  It is a two finger blade that can be used as:  a fire steel striker, a small cutting instrument, a make shift spear / arrow head, an arrow shaft straightener, a billy can retriever as well as other things.

Specs:

  • Cut from 1/8” (0.125”) 1095 steel
  • Flat, slightly convex grind with a convex edge
  • 3.0625” overall length
  • ~ 1.25” cutting edge
  • ~ 0.3125” blade width
  • ~ 1.8125” handle length
  • Weighs about half an ounce
  • Supplied with a Kydex or Concealex sheath

NOTE: The kydex sheaths for these tools are unusual due to the nature and shape of the tool.  It requires two hands to remove them and insert them into the sheath.  The easiest way to remove them from the sheath is:

1.  Hold the sheath in your left hand with the edge away from you.

2.  Apply a bit of pressure and separate the layers of kydex to increase the opening

3.  Slowly rotate and pull the tool with the blade away from you and cut it out of the sheath.

Survival Altoids tin knifeThe cutting edge on these tools is sharp, so please use caution when using, as well as removing and placing it into the sheath.  I’m not responsible for injuries that may happen as a result of using this tool.

These are made from 1095 high carbon steel and will Patina & tarnish easy, a little rubbing compound will generally remove any tarnish.

Each one is hand ground and heat treated by me, there may be oil residue left over from the heat treating.
